The Importance of Family Time

At times, having some family time on a daily basis can feel like trying to squeeze in a workout between hitting the snooze button and rushing out the door. It is not necessarily because family members don’t want to spend time together, but because busy schedules and different commitments often get in the way. It can almost feel like living in a hotel where everyone retreats to their own rooms, left to their own devices without much need to connect. Harsh, isn’t it? Definitely not the warm, cozy home atmosphere we all envision.

I always remember when my children attended different schools, then worked different jobs, each to their own schedules for coming back home. Their dad, too, had his own schedule with work. Setting a specific time for dinner felt like trying to solve a puzzle with a piece missing. As children grow older and start working, it becomes even more challenging. realistically, I concluded that gathering everyone around the table for dinner or lunch on weekdays was impossible. So, I created a “cuppa time” where the family would sit together later in the day when everyone was home and enjoy a warm drink. This was a time that everyone had to respect and give the priority it deserved.

Spending quality time with family is like watering a plant. It nurtures and helps those deep roots grow strong. Regular family interactions can work wonders for stress relief and mental health, creating a supportive environment where everyone feels valued. Whether it’s board games, storytelling, or simply talking about our days, these moments are golden. This regular time together does not only bring the family closer together, but it is a sacred time to connect and wind down.
